What is responsive design?

Responsive web design is an approach for web development that allows web pages to render equally well on all types of devices. Regardless of the device the user is using, a widescreen monitor, laptop or smartphone, all of the information will be displayed and visible.

Responsive web design is not only a visual feature. The functionality of the web page can also change for different screen sizes. This makes responsive web pages easier to navigate, user experience is better and website visitors are more likely to return.

Is responsive absolutely necessary?

Responsive design has been among the best practices for a while. Now, it’s more than that; it’s a must-have. Web traffic from mobile devices is constantly growing. In 2009 traffic from mobile devices was a mere 0.7% from all the global traffic. While from 2018 and beyond, statistics show that it makes up for more than 50% of all the web traffic.

It’s now a fact that Google has adopted a mobile-first indexing approach. The world’s largest search engine is evolving according to the trends in user behavior, and it now prioritizes mobile websites.

If you want to have a competitive website, make sure it’s responsive.
